I am informed by CIE that extensive cleaning of the Royal Canal was carried out in the city area two years ago. As a result of dumping by local residents, cleaning is again required at a number of places and this will shortly be attended to.
While there is no statutory obligation on CIE to repair the surface of the canal towpaths for the benefit of members of the public using them the board nevertheless carry out minor repairs from time to time.
