Vol. 248 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - School Medical Scheme.

4.

asked the Minister for Health when the school medical inspection scheme was first introduced.

The records available indicate that school medical inspections were introduced in 1924 and were extended to all areas during the nineteen thirties.

May I ask the Minister why it is that a scheme which has been in operation for nearly 50 years still covers only 30 per cent of the children? We have plenty of doctors and nurses and we have the necessary clinics and institutions. Why has the scheme not been expanded in order to give all children those services?

That is a separate question. Question No. 4 is in connection with the date the inspection scheme was introduced.

Why has it taken so long to expand? Has the Minister no answer?
