Vol. 248 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Non-Delivery of Mail.

113.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he is aware of complaints of nondelivery of post and telegrams; and that in the case of one Dublin firm alone (name supplied) two out-going and one incoming telegram, 27 sealed letters to Ireland and abroad including seven orders to suppliers and many invoices have been lost within the last nine months as well as three cheques for duty to bonded warehouses; and whether he will make a statement on the matter.

Complaints regarding non-delivery of letters or telegrams are few. No complaint was received from the firm concerned regarding missing letters during the period mentioned. The firm has now given details of three missing letters sent to addressees abroad and inquiries are being pursued with the administration concerned. No trace could be found of the two outgoing telegrams having been handed in to my Department for transmission. No report had been made to this Department regarding the incoming telegram, which was not received here, but the matter is now being taken up with the administration of the country from which the telegram is stated to have been sent.
