Vol. 249 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tipperary Factories.

27.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the present position and future prospects of a clothing manufacturing factory (name supplied) in County Tipperary.

I am aware that this firm has found it necessary to introduce some short-time working. My Department have been doing all they can to assist the management with the problems which confront them and will continue to do so.

28.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the present position and future prospects of a firm (details supplied) in Clonmel, County Tipperary.

The firm to which the Deputy refers ceased production in March of this year. The Industrial Development Authority are continuing their efforts to find a suitable industry to take over the factory premises or to establish a new industry in the area.

May I ask the Minister if any effort is being made by himself or the agencies of his Department to bring about the re-introduction of the manufacture which was heretofore carried out in the premises concerned?

I take it the Deputy and Deputy Hogan are inquiring about the one firm. I have said in reply that the IDA are continuing their efforts to find a suitable industry to take over the factory premises or to establish a new industry. An effort to find an industrialist to take over the factory premises would include the possibility of someone who would endeavour to re-operate the existing industry there, as well as the possibility of taking it over to introduce a new industry.

Is there any evidence that this may happen?

No positive evidence at this stage.
