Vol. 250 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - EEC Fisheries Policy.

150.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries what measures are proposed in the EEC fisheries policy for the safeguarding of the existing fish resources in coastal areas.

Under the common fisheries policy, the Council may, with a view to safeguarding fish stocks in the maritime waters of the member states from over-exploitation, adopt any necessary conservation measures, including limitation of the catching of certain species of fish and restrictions as regards areas, periods, methods of fishing and fishing gear.

151.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries what steps have been taken in the negotiations with the EEC to raise the absence of provisions for Community financing of the social measures that may be required in connection with structural reform in the fishing industry following the application of the EEC policy of access to fishing grounds.

Arrangements have already been made for a meeting with the Commission at which all aspects of the Community's common fisheries policy requiring clarification will be raised.

152.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries whether the EEC guide prices for fish have yet been established, and if so, whether he will give these guide prices together with comparable Irish prices for a recent twelve-month period for similar qualities of fish.

The guide prices for fish in the EEC have not yet been fixed.
