Vol. 250 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - City Centre Traffic Ban.

229.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will make a statement on his proposals for banning private motorists from the city centre, indicating his reason for these proposals; and what exemptions will be granted.

I made the suggestion for investigation by the Dublin Corporation and the other authorities concerned as an experiment which might lead to an early improvement of Dublin's traffic problem. The area and the type of vehicle to which the suggestion is to be applied have not been defined and will be considered as part of the investigation. In the meantime I would earnestly appeal to all concerned, and especially the public, to co-operate in avoiding the build-up of traffic congestion in the central areas during the coming weeks.

We are all concerned with this, including members of the public.

We are all members of the public.
