Vol. 250 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Bay Pollution.

36.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if his Department will be involved, and to what extent, in the recently announced investigation into the pollution problem of the Dublin Bay area, by the ESB, Port and Docks Board and Dublin Corporation.

The particular aspect of pollution of the sea with which I am concerned is the prevention of pollution by oil. The survey being undertaken by the ESB, Dublin Port and Docks Board and the Dublin Corporation in Dublin Bay and the estuary is a two-year survey at a cost of about £16,000 which, when completed, will give full details of the physical, chemical and biological characteristics of the water in the bay and estuary. The results will be of interest to me and other bodies concerned with the various aspects of water pollution.
