Vol. 250 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Annuity Scheme.

84.

asked the Minister for Lands what steps were taken to publicise the life annuity scheme; and if he will state the cost of any such publicity.

The life annuity scheme was launched at a Press conference held by the Minister for Lands on 31st January, 1967. In conjunction with this a full statement on the scheme was circulated to all national and provincial newspapers.

The scheme was featured in the Land Commission exhibits at the RDS Spring Shows in 1967 and 1968, at which publicity material was available.

This publicity material—a specially prepared booklet and a leaflet—has, since then, been widely distributed to inquirers about the scheme.

Details of the scheme are included in the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries publication Specially for the Farmer and in the Department of Social Welfare's Guide to the Social Services. The National Farmers' Association have been kind enough to feature particulars in the current edition of their yearbook. Decade of Challenge.

The scheme was the subject of two television programmes to the production of which the Land Commission contributed relevant material and information.

In addition, the Land Commission inspectors are constantly on the lookout for cases suitable for participation in the scheme.

Given the nature of the publicity involved, the Deputy will appreciate that it would be extremely difficult to estimate the cost.

Consideration is at present being given as to other effective publicity which might be adopted.

Surely the Parliamentary Secretary will agree that land annuity is a little bit confusing if one does not know which one it refers to?

What is the name of the scheme?

The life annuity scheme.
