Vol. 253 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Creamery Milk Prices.

21.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries why the Dairy Disposal Board is paying less per gallon for milk at Castlemaine creamery than it is paying at Rathmore creamery.

While almost all the Castlemaine creamery milk intake is converted into butter, the bulk of the Rathmore intake is sold to a local milk processing factory at a price which gives a better financial return than does butter manufacture.

Is the Minister aware that threepence per gallon was paid for skim milk in 1941 and the same price is being paid now in 1971?

I am aware that the price of skim milk is the subject of negotiations which are at present being carried on and I am awaiting the outcome of these negotiations.

I would appeal to the Minister to intervene quickly before a serious situation develops down there.

I expect to meet a deputation from the locality before long.
