Vol. 253 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Offaly Power Station.

8.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if there has been a recent decision not to proceed with the extension of the Shannonbridge power station, County Offaly; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

9.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if any decision was made recently by the ESB not to proceed with the extension and expansion planned for Shannonbridge, County Offaly as announced some time ago by the Taoiseach in Tullamore; if so, if he will explain the reasons for the change of policy; and if he will make a statement outlining Government policy in the matter.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 8 and 9 together.

There has been no such decision. The extension of Shannonbridge is proceeding. A preliminary contract for the development of the site has been completed and orders have been placed for the main equipment, namely, the boiler and turbo generator. It is expected that the new unit will be commissioned in 1974.
