Vol. 253 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Abbeydorney, Kerry, Unemployed.

11.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he is aware of the great dissatisfaction amongst those in the Abbeydorney district, Tralee, County Kerry, who are in receipt of unemployment assistance and who have to get their forms certified each week, because of the fact that only one member of the Garda Síochána is stationed there; and that when he is not available they often have to wait for hours for a garda to come from Tralee; and, if so, if he will now make more suitable arrangements to facilitate the people concerned.

The adequacy of the facilities for the certification of unemployment in the Abbeydorney district was examined in September, 1969. It was found then that the arrangements were satisfactory and I am not aware that the position since is otherwise. However, I am now having the Deputy's complaint investigated and will advise him of the outcome.

When this garda is off on holiday there is no one there at all.
