Vol. 254 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Equal Pay.

32.

asked the Minister for Labour if he is aware of the announcement on 14th May in the White Paper of the British Government that it intends to ratify the ILO Convention on Equal Pay; and when he intends to make a similar announcement in relation to the Republic.

I am aware of the announcement to which the Deputy refers.

As I have indicated on previous occasions in the House, equal pay is one of the matters being considered by the Commission on the Status of Women, which, it is expected, will present an interim report covering the implications of the introduction of equal pay, with particular reference to the public sector. The Deputy will not expect me at this stage to anticipate any Government decision relating to the ILO Convention on Equal Pay.

Is this not very old? It is there a long time.
