Vol. 254 No. 3

Questions—Ceisteanna. Oral Answers. - Stolen Cars.

36.

asked the Minister for Justice the number of cars reported stolen in the last 12 months in (a) Cork, (b) Dublin and (c) the rest of the country; and how many of them have since been recovered.

The available figures relate to the year ended 30th September, 1970.

The number of mechanically propelled vehicles regarded by the Garda as having been stolen in Cork city and county in that year is 17 and the corresponding figures for the Dublin Metropolitan Area and the rest of the country are 308 and 48 respectively.

Statistics of vehicles taken without the owner's consent, which are not considered as having been stolen in the legal sense, are being collected and I shall let the Deputy have them when they are available, together with the number of vehicles recovered.
