Vol. 254 No. 3

Questions—Ceisteanna. Oral Answers. - Gorse and Furze Control.

43.

asked the Minister for Defence if his Department will urgently take steps to control the growth of gorse and furze on its lands at Fort Camden, Crosshaven, County Cork.

It has been decided to control, by means of chemical spray, the growth of gorse and furze in the area mentioned. A supply of the chemical has been purchased and the work of spraying will be undertaken in the near future.

Now that we are aware that Deputy Meaney and the Minister for Defence are not speaking, since Deputy Meaney had to put down a question, does the Parliamentary Secretary not think it is time to remove some of the weeds from the Cabinet?

I should like to point out to Deputy L'Estrange that this is a matter about which Deputy Meaney has been concerned for a considerable number of years. Apparently he was asked by a large number of people in the area to have the position rectified. The Deputy will appreciate Deputy Meaney's deep social concern to ensure that the position would be rectified as quickly as possible.

He must not be on speaking terms with the Minister when he had to put down a question.

Every member of Fianna Fáil is on the best of terms.
