Vol. 254 No. 3

Questions—Ceisteanna. Oral Answers. - Membership of EEC.

2.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs what steps he is taking to ensure that Ireland is not adversely affected by any agreement between Britain and the EEC in relation to agricultural products from New Zealand.

So far no specific proposals have been made by the Community in regard to the import of agricultural products from New Zealand. I can assure the Deputy that we are following this matter very closely and that all appropriate action is being taken to ensure that Ireland's interests are not adversely affected.

3.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if, in view of the fact that the EEC countries are now setting up a commission to extend tourist facilities within the Community, there have been any discussions with the EEC, within the framework of Ireland's application for membership, to expand Ireland's tourist industry.

I understand that a working group has been set up by the member States of the EEC to consider tourism matters of common interest. Neither Ireland nor the other applicant countries have been associated with these consultations but we expect that on accession we will become a party to the Community's work in the sphere of tourism.
