Vol. 255 No. 5

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business in the following order: Nos. 40, 47, 7 to 19, inclusive, 20, 42, 21 and 43. Questions will be taken at 3 p.m.

Could I ask the Taoiseach what is the position about the National College of Art Bill which I think it had been intended to take today?

The position, I understand, is that the Deputy submitted about 60 amendments last night and it was just impracticable to have them printed and circulated.

The Taoiseach is incorrect. I submitted 25 amendments on Monday morning at the appropriate time.

I am repeating what I was told.

One of my amendments changes one word throughout the Bill and that makes another 35 amendments.

Therefore, 25 and 35 make 60 amendments. Is that right?

I suppose that is the way it has been added up, but it is 25 amendments.

The printers will have to deal with them as 60 separate amendments and they will have to be printed in that form. It takes time. Therefore, from the practical point of view it would not be possible to have the Bill before the House.

Would the Taoiseach say when it will be taken?

I do not know. We shall have to consider that.

I understood the Minister was anxious to get it——

So he is still.

And we are anxious to facilitate him.
