Vol. 255 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Offaly Schools.

39.

asked the Minister for Education the present situation regarding the provision of a new national school in Shinrone, County Offaly; if he will outline the reasons for the long delay in building this school; if there are difficulties in regard to the title to the land to be provided for the school; if so, what progress has been made towards solving same; and on what site it is proposed to erect the new school.

I would refer the Deputy to the reply given him on 27th May, 1971.

Satisfactory evidence of title is still awaited in respect of two of the three plots which comprise the site for the new school. This site consists of the existing school site and two adjoining plots of land.

What are the other two plots the Minister referred to?

The site for the new school comprises of three plots, one of which is the site of the existing Shinrone school. Good title is furnished to one of the three plots and satisfactory evidence of title is still awaited in respect of the remaining plots. We wrote to the manager's solicitors in January, 1971, urging them to produce the titles to the remaining plots as quickly as possible but as far as I am aware we have not yet received satisfactory evidence of title.

I have been told that a representative from the Department inspected this site and produced maps which were incorrect, could the Minister comment on that?

All I can say is that we wrote to the manager's solicitors about this in January last and to date we have not received a reply.

Arrangements are in hand to erect the prefabricated school by September, 1971.
