Vol. 256 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers (Resumed). - Army Security Precautions.

167.

andMr. Nolan asked the Minister for Defence what extra security precautions are being taken by the Army in view of the present situation in Northern Ireland.

Among the extra security precautions being taken by the Defence Forces are assistance to the Garda Síochána in guarding installations of national importance and patrolling the Border areas. In general, it would be contrary to policy to disclose details of military security activities and precautions.

Bearing national security in mind, could the Minister give the House any idea of what extra equipment he is buying for the Army and what is the improvement in numbers?

I must inform the Deputy that I have replied to a question as comprehensively as possible on that matter.

He has already replied very disappointingly.
