Vol. 256 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers (Resumed). - Co-operative Society Housing.

225.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number of co-operative housing societies which have built houses on local authority sites since January, 1971; and the names of each local authority concerned.

I asked local authorities by circular letter on the 16th March last for information on co-operative housing groups operating in their areas, including the numbers of houses being built or planned by the groups. With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to circulate with the Official Report, a table based on the replies to the circular letter showing the number of co-operative housing groups which have built in the last year or so, or are building, houses on sites provided by local authorities or are in the process of obtaining sites from them.

Following is the table:

Is the Parliamentary Secretary satisfied that this information is comprehensive from the point of view that all local authorities replied to the letter?

It embodies a list of co-operative housing groups, urban district councils and so on—the number of co-operative set-ups in each area.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary satisfied it is comprehensive enough?

We would like to see much more done because this is a development which could be spread beneficially throughout a greater area.
