As already announced the total allocation for local improvement schemes in the current year has been increased by £500,000 to £1,000,000 to make greater provision for improvement works on accommodation roads and to provide additional opportunities for employment in rural areas. Galway County Council have availed of the substantial increase in their allocation from £69,000 in 1970-71 to £141,000 in the current year to create additional employment. Details of the locations of work undertaken are not furnished to my Department by the local authorities concerned.
