Vol. 258 No. 9

Written Answers. - Postcard Issues.

327.

asked the Minister for Justice why the Dublin Circuit Court office is failing to issue postcards to parties on record in civil cases where cards are lodged with the notices of trial, or Forms 74 in malicious injury cases; if steps will be taken to remedy the situation and, in particular, to make the lodgment and issue of cards compulsory under the rules.

In reply to the first part of the Question, I am informed that postcards are issued in all civil actions and malicious injury cases in which they are lodged by the parties concerned under the unofficial arrangement in operation in the Dublin Circuit Court office. I am further informed, however, that the postcards are lodged in only about 25 per cent of civil actions set down for trial and in less than 2 per cent of malicious injury cases listed for hearing.

The question of making the lodgment and issue of postcards compulsory under the rules of the Circuit Court is a matter for the Circuit Court Rules Committee.
