Vol. 259 No. 1

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Occupational Hazards in Industry.

30.

asked the Minister for Labour the outcome to date of the survey into occupational hazards in industry which is being carried out by a team of inspectors from his Department.

Two pilot surveys, involving 35 premises, into the level of exposure of workers to certain chemical fumes have been completed. A full survey into hazards to workers arising from the use of ionising radiations, involving a total of 25 factories, has also been carried out. Reports of these surveys will be contained in the report of the industrial inspectorate for the 15-month period ended 31st December, 1971, which will be published shortly.

At present a survey into the noise levels prevailing in industry is in progress. Approximately 1,000 factories are involved in this survey, of which 300 have been visited, and it is expected that this survey will be completed by the end of the current year.
