Vol. 259 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Water and Sewerage Grant.

29.

asked the Minister for Local Government when it is proposed to pay a water and sewerage grant to a person in County Cork (name supplied).

Arrangements are being made for an early inspection in this case with a view to payment of the grant, if in order.

Is it not very unfair that this person is waiting more than 12 months for an inspection? Is it because the house is allocated on an island that these people are more or less ignored?

Surely the Deputy is aware of the background here. First of all, this was a joint application for water and sewerage and when inspected the sewerage was not provided. In the meantime, the applicant became a member of a group scheme on Sherkin Island. This dragged on for some time and eventually the group scheme was abandoned and the County Council decided to put a County Council water supply on Sherkin Island costing £28,000. It may or may not be possible for this person, who is a member of a group scheme, to get water as a result of the new proposals of the county council. Anyhow, whatever amount of progress he has made to date will be inspected immediately.
