asked the Minister for Local Government when work is expected to start on the new houses in Finglas West, Dublin; the amount of money sanctioned by his Department for these houses; and the expected number of houses to be built in this area.

I presume the Deputy is referring to Dublin Corporation's plans for major housing development in the Tolka Valley/South Finglas area.
I understand that work is already in progress on 346 houses in Stage 2 of this development and that it is expected that a contract will be signed shortly for 296 houses in Stage 1. No decision has been made, as yet, about the number of dwellings which will be provided in the balance of the area, comprising roughly 150 acres. I have already sanctioned the borrowing by Dublin Corporation of an interim amount of £1 million to finance part of this development. The corporation will apply for sanction to further loans as work progresses.
