Vol. 259 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Farm.

18.

asked the Minister for Lands why the Land Commission did not acquire the Gainley farm at Rappa Castle, Crossmolina, Ballina, County Mayo for distribution among local uneconomic holders who are living in congested conditions.

The Land Commission have decided to carry out an inspection of this 21-acre holding and the requisite notice under the Land Act, 1965, was served on the owner earlier this month. Until such time as the inspection has been completed, it is not possible to indicate what action may follow.

Would the Minister not agree that the land has been sold recently to a local businessman?

That is not my information.

It is my information.

Will the Minister confirm that this information is not certain, that it is merely a rumour which is circulating in the area?

It is only a rumour.

If my question has the effect of getting the land divided among local people I will be very glad.
