Vol. 261 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Marriage Bill Amendment.

12.

asked the Minister for Health if it is the intention of the Government to reintroduce the Marriage Bill, 1963, in the near future; if not, why; and if he has any other legislation in mind amending the marriage law with particular reference to the minimum age for marriage currently under consideration.

It is my intention to ask the Government for authority to reintroduce the Marriage Bill, 1963, with amendments which have accrued in the intervening period.

Correspondence is proceeding currently on some of those amendments but I would hope to have those completed in the near future. After this the way will be clear to proceed with the measure which, it is proposed, will include a provision dealing with a minimum age for marriage.
