asked the Taoiseach whether there was an increase in the value of imports from EEC countries during the year ended 30th April, 1972; and, if so, if he will state the increase.

In the year ended 31st April, 1972, the value of imports from EEC countries increased by £10,928,664 compared with the year ended 30th April, 1971.

asked the Taoiseach whether there has been an increase in exports to EEC countries during the year ended 30th April 1972; and, if so, if he will state the increase.

In the year ended 30th April, 1972, the value of exports to EEC countries decreased by £33,074 compared with the year ended 30th April, 1971.

16.

asked the Taoiseach this country's trade balance as of 30th April, 1972, as compared with 30th April, 1971; whether there has been an increase or decrease in the value of total trade for this period; and the relative increase and decrease for both imports and exports for the period in question.

The import excess for the year ended on 30th April, 1972, amounted to £192.0 million, a decrease of £49.2 million compared with the figure of £241.2 million for the year ended on 30th April, 1971. Total trade increased by £83.4 million, imports by £17.1 million and exports by £66.3 million between the two periods.
