Vol. 262 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Meath Sewerage Scheme.

49.

asked the Minister for Local Government when the contract documents for Mornington sewerage scheme, County Meath, were submitted; and if he will indicate the subject matter of the technical discussions taking place with the local authority in relation to these documents.

Contract documents for this scheme were submitted on 17th September last. The technical matters discussed between my Department and the local authority related, inter alia, to the extent of the technical information to be included in the documents, alternative methods of treatment, and economies in construction.

Is the Minister aware that this is an area of fairly rapid population development and it is desirable that he would make available an adequate sewerage scheme as soon as possible to avoid the proliferation of septic tanks?

The provision of this scheme is considered relatively urgent.

It is urgent?

Yes, relatively so. There are other schemes that are more urgent.
