Vol. 262 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Waterford School.

42.

asked the Minister for Education when improvements will commence at the Killea national school, Dunmore East, County Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There are no proposals before my Department to carry out a scheme of improvements to the existing Killea national school.

The Commissioners of Public Works are arranging to have working drawings prepared as a matter of urgency for the erection of the new central school at Killea.

The Minister gave an assurance on this matter last year when he said that he would provide funds this year which would be allocated for the repairs to Killea national school. Is the Minister not aware that urgent repairs to this school are required if the children are to continue learning there next year at all?

The Deputy is in error in relation to my reply last year. I said that it was not proposed to carry out a scheme of improvement at Killea national school, but that a grant had been sanctioned towards the cost of a new school at Killea and that the case had been given priority in the financial year 1972-73.

Will a new school be built this year?

The Commissioners of Public Works are preparing the working drawings as a matter of urgency.

This is most unsatisfactory.
