Prior to the setting up of the present health boards there was only one chief executive officer employed by health authorities and he was employed in the former Dublin Health Authority. The following are the details of salary in relation to that post:

The chief executive officer of the former Dublin Health Authority was appointed chief executive officer of the Eastern Health Board with effect from 1st October, 1970 with a salary scale of £5,275×132—£5,805 and this scale was revised with effect from 1st January, 1971 to £5,770×143—£6,345.
The chief executive officers to the Southern Health Board, the SouthEastern Health Board, and the Western Health Board were appointed 1st October, 1970, on a salary scale of £4,740×132—£5,270 which was revised from 1st January, 1971, to £5,185×143—£5,760.
The salary scales for posts of chief executive officer to the Midland Health Board, Mid-Western Health Board, North-Eastern Health Board and North-Western Health Board were fixed at £4,205×133—£4,735 as from 1st October, 1970, and this scale was revised with effect from 1st January, 1971, to £4,600×144—£5,175. The chief executive officers to the Midland and Mid-Western Health Boards were appointed as from 1st October, 1970: the chief executive officer to the North-Western Health Board was appointed as from 2nd November, 1970 and the chief executive officer to the North-Eastern Health Board was appointed as from 18th January, 1971.
