Vol. 262 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Waterford Unemployed.

1.

asked the Taoiseach the number unemployed in County Waterford on 15th June, 1971 and 15th June, 1972.

The number of persons residing in County Waterford on the live register was 1,510 on 30th June, 1972, and 1,186 on 25th June, 1971. The numbers classified by area of residence are available only for a date at the end of each month.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary account for the increase in the number of persons on the live register?

Obviously it is a seasonal situation, and so on.

Obviously it is not seasonal because it is at the same time each year. That is a stupid reply, if I may say so.

The Deputy should not talk about stupidity.

I asked a question.

And I gave the answer.

I asked a question about the same period in two different years.

I expected an intelligent reply.

And I expect some civility.

Answer the question then.

An extra 400 unemployed.

Question No. 2.

I want to know why there is an increase in unemployment.

That is a separate question.

Government policy.

It is a matter for another Minister.

There is a touch of hysteria over there.
