Vol. 262 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Redundancies.

15.

asked the Minister for Labour if he is aware of the decision by a firm (name supplied) in County Donegal to phase out its operations; if he will state the number of people who will become redundant as a result of this; and whether his Department were consulted prior to this decision to seek ways to avert or alleviate any redundancies.

My information is that the firm has decided to reduce its output because of a fall-off in world sales but not to phase out its operations. Between 24 and 34 girls out of the present work force of 52 will become redundant over the next few months, depending on market conditions.

My Department was not consulted by the firm prior to their decision but the national manpower service has been in touch with them and is seeking other suitable employment for the workers who will be laid off.

I understand that the Industrial Development Authority is also in touch with the firm.
