I presume the Deputy refers to the gross job creation targets for manufacturing industry in the period 1973-1977 which are included in the regional industrial plans of the Industrial Development Authority.
The IDA have not based their plans on job targets for individual towns but on groups of towns in regions. One of the groups in the midlands region includes all the towns mentioned by the Deputy with the exception of Elphin and the inclusion of Carrick-on-Shannon, and the gross job target for that group is 550. Job targets are not calculated on an individual town basis so as to provide for greater flexibility in industrial promotion and to take account of the benefits which smaller towns may expect from industrial development in larger towns nearby.
