Vol. 263 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Training of Ambulance Men.

41.

asked the Minister for Health if short experience in hospital is included in the training of ambulance men; and, if not, if he will consider this suggestion.

Ambulance drivers attend a five week wholetime training course of which one week is spent in the accident department of a Dublin casualty hospital. The thirtieth course in this series of courses is currently in progress.

Would the Minister not agree there are a number of matters affecting ambulance drivers' conditions which should receive urgent attention?

This is a very complicated matter. The question of where they live and distance from the hospital and so on enters into it.

I am aware it is complicated but, because it is complicated, it should not be put on the long finger, as it has been for years. I ask the Minister now to do something about it.

I understand progress is being made.
