Vol. 263 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Aer Lingus Operations.

94.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he had any discussions with the British authorities on the question of restricting the operations of Aer Lingus into Manchester Airport or other British airports.

95.

Mr. O'Donnell

asked the Minister for Transport and Power what action he proposes to take following the recent announcement that Aer Lingus rights between Manchester and European destinations would be terminated as from 1st April 1973; and if he will make a statement outlining the reasons for this decision by the British Government.

With your permission, a Cheann Chomhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 94 and 95 together.

The air services agreement between this country and the UK is under review at present. These reviews take place from time to time under the provisions of the agreement.

Talks took place in London on 27th and 28th September between officials of the British Department of Trade and Industry and the Department of Transport and Power.

The talks have been adjourned but will be resumed in the near future. The talks are confidential and I am not in a position to make any statement in the matter until they have concluded.
