Vol. 263 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Tipperary Vocational Schools.

80.

asked the Minister for Education if he will reconsider his decision in regard to the proposal of County Tipperary (SR) Vocational Education Committee to purchase eight acres of land at King Street, Clonmel; and if he will meet a deputation in the matter.

Following an inspection of the site in question, when it was found unsuitable for development, the vocational education committee were informed that its acquisition was not recommended. It is proposed to discuss the acquisition of land in Clonmel for vocational school purposed with the committee and a letter will shortly be issued inviting them to meet officers of the building unit. In the circumstances, the question of my receiving a deputation would not be appropriate at this time.

81.

asked the Minister for Education the present position regarding the provision of a new vocational school in Tipperary town.

The provision of a new vocational school in Tipperary town has already been approved in principle by my Department, and planning is in hands. A schedule of accommodation proposed by the committee is at present being examined and the Department hope to be in a position in the near future to arrange a meeting to discuss this schedule.

82.

As an interim measure increased enrolments at Killenaule vocational school, County Tipperary, are being provided for by means of prefabricated classrooms. A permanent extension will be approved in due course.
