The beet acreage contracted by growers for 1973 was in the past ten years exceeded only twice —in 1964 and 1972—and so I could not accept the suggestion that production is on the decline.
Beet growing is a matter of arrangement between growers and Comhlucht Siúicre Éireann and it is not open to me under EEC regulations to give special incentives.
