Vol. 266 No. 10

Written Answers. - County Sligo Water Supply.

177.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that about 70 houses situated at Silver Hill, Stella Maris and Abbeytown, Ballisodare, County Sligo, have not an adequate supply of water and that 12 houses on high level at Stella Maris have rarely had a supply for the last ten years or so in spite of the fact that Ballisodare housing estate has been connected to the Ballymote regional water scheme; if he will give an explanation for this; and the action he proposes to take to alleviate the situation.

The provision of an adequate supply of water to the houses referred to by the Deputy is primarily a matter for the Sligo County Council.

I understand the problem currently being experienced in the area referred to by the Deputy is largely due to defective piping and a pump breakdown and that the county council are engaged in having these matters remedied. I understand also that the completion of the Lough Gill water supply scheme should solve the water problem in the area generally.
