Vol. 267 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Junior Hospital Doctors.

25.

asked the Minister for Health if any claim has been submitted to his Department for salary increases in respect of junior hospital doctors; if so, if he will give details; and if he will state if any such claim is in breach of the national wage agreement.

A pay claim by junior hospital doctors is to be heard at arbitration on the 26th instant. The claim covers interns, house officers and registrars. The amounts claimed range from 24 per cent in the case of interns to 42 per cent at the maximum of the scale for registrars. Whether or not a claim such as this is admissible under the national wage agreement will be a matter, in the first place, for the arbitrator.
