asked the Minister for Education the number of students in each faculty in (a) Dublin University (b) University College Dublin (c) University College Cork and (d) University College Galway in 1969-70, 1970-71, 1971-72 and 1972-73.

The information sought by the Deputy is set out in the form of a tabular statement which, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to have circulated with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:

Notes

1. The figures in this table refer to full-time students only. At present part-time students are not returned in a comparable form by the different universities.

2. TCD has terminated courses in Agriculture: the figures for TCD show "repeat" students over the phasing-out period. UCC and UCG give courses in Agriculture in 1st and 2nd year only, after which students transfer to UCD.

3. In the NUI Colleges, Social Science is included in Arts.

4. TCD does not have a separate School of Commerce or offer a degree in Commerce. The majority of the TCD students shown under the heading "Economic and Social Studies" are pursuing courses in Business Studies or Economics.
