Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Departmental Appointments.

asked the Taoiseach the appointments made in his Department since 15th March 1973 other than through the Civil Service Commission; and if he will state in respect of each appointment (1) the name of the person (2) the grade (3) the title of the post (4) the qualifications required (5) the salary and allowances or other payments attaching to the post and (6) the terms of employment.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to circulate, with the Official Report, a statement giving the information requested.

The following is the statement:—

There were two appointments in the Department of the Taoiseach of the type referred to in the question.

A.—1, Muiris Mac Conghail; 2, Assistant Secretary; 3, Head of the Government Information Service; 4, Experience and ability of particular value in the information field; 5, Remuneration appropriate to Assistant Secretary grade; 6, Standard civil service terms.

B.—1, Miss Vera Price; 2, No designated Civil Service grade; 3, Personal Assistant to the Head of the Government Information Service; 4, suitable skill and experience in relation to the news media; 5, Salary recoupable to R.T.E.; 6, On loan fron Radio Telefís Éireann.

One such appointment was mad in the Office of the Attorney Genera and the details are as follows:

1, Miss Marie Byrne; 2, Clerica Officer; 3, Personal Secretary to Attorney General; 4, Not specified; 5, £31.05 per week; 6, On a yearly, non-pensionable basis.

Five such appointments were made in the Central Statistics Office of the Department of the Taoiseach. The following are the details:—

A.—1, John K. Ryan; 2, Farm Account Surveyor; 3, Farm Account Surveyor; 4, £1,318 per annum; 5, Some experience of Farm Accounts; 6, Temporary.

B.—1, Brian Cannon; 2, Farm Account Surveyor; 3, Farm Account Surveyor; 4, £1,318 per annum; 5, Some experience of Farm Accounts; 6, Temporary.

C.—1, Patrick J. Pierce; 2, Farm Account Surveyor; 3, Farm Account Surveyor; 4, £1,318 per annum; 5, Some experience of Farm Accounts; 6, Temporary.

D.—1, Miss Anne O'Leary; 2, Household Budget Interviewer; 3, Household Budget Interviewer; 4, £1,318 per annum; 5, Degree in Social Studies; 6, Temporary.

E.—1, Miss Diane Ayde-Curran; 2, Household Budget Interviewer; 3, Household Budget Interviewer; 4, £1,318 per annum; 5, Degree in Social Studies; 6, Temporary.

F.—1, Dominic Finnegan; 2, Messenger; 3, Messenger; 4, Reasonable standard of education; 5, £25.48 per week; 6, Temporary.
