Figures contained in the Quarterly Bulletin of Housing Statistics published by my Department indicate that the gross receipts of the major building societies in the period 1st April to 30th September, 1972, amounted to £36,705,000. The figure for the corresponding period in the current financial year is not yet available.
In the first quarter of the year, however, that is from 1st April to 30th June, gross receipts of the societies amounted to £19,464,000.
Is the Minister aware that when looking at the building societies the figure of importance is the net increase in the shares and deposits? Could the Minister give us the figure for the net increase in shares and deposits of building societies in that period?
Perhaps Deputy Molloy would put down a question on that and I would be glad to give him the information next week.
