Vol. 268 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Creamery Milk Industry.

33.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries how it is proposed to guarantee to a factory (name supplied) the supply of milk required in future years to maintain full employment and the development of its potential within the framework of the proposed plans for the rationalisation of the creamery milk industry in Kerry; and whether such guarantees will be made legally binding on his Department.

It is proposed to provide in the agreement for the sale of the Dairy Disposal Company's Kerry properties to Kerry Co-operative Creameries Ltd that there shall be no diminution in the supply of milk to the factory concerned. Arrangements for increases in the milk supply to the factory in future years will be a matter for agreement between the co-operative society and the proprietors of the factory and will, it is understood, be influenced by the level of increase in milk production in the county as a whole. The price payable will, of course, have to be agreed upon by the two parties directly concerned.

My Department will not be a party to the legal sale agreement which will be concluded between the Dairy Disposal Company and Kerry Co-operative Creameries.
