56.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the appointments made in his Department since 15th March, 1973 other than through the Civil Service Commission; and if he will state in respect of each appointment (1) the name of the person (2) the grade (3) the title of the post (4) the qualifications required (5) the salary and allowances or other payments attaching to the post and (6) the terms of employment.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate it with the Official Report.

Is it not possible that some of these replies could be given by the Minister instead of being given by way of tabular statement? Some of the replies are very brief. I do not want to raise them all on the Adjournment. I would prefer to deal with them here. How many persons are involved?

I can give him the short answer, none. Therefore the rest does not arise.

Can the Minister, therefore, tell us why he is going to have his answers circulated with the Official Report when the answer is "None".

Because there are half a dozen answers to be given. That is the normal way to deal with it.

That is despicable conduct.

Will you look at the Deputy who is talking about despicable conduct.

The Minister has indicated that the answer is "None".

Another cover up. Would the Minister not give an honest answer to the question and not try to mislead the House?

I shall deal with it later, anyway. In view of the deliberate intention of the Minister to mislead the House, I wish to raise this matter on the Adjournment.

The Deputy is well aware of the rules of the House which prevent him from raising such a matter this evening. It is after 3.30. He may do it next week.

May I not raise it on Tuesday?

The Deputy may mention it on Tuesday.

Another deceitful effort at a cover up, smart Aleck answers.
