Vol. 268 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Wexford Quay.

63.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will consider declaring Kilmore Quay, County Wexford, a major harbour in view of the rapidly expanding fishing industry in this area.

It is not my intention at present to establish further major fishery harbour centres of the kind provided for in the Fishery Harbour Centres Act, 1968. Should the expansion of the sea fishing industry at Kilmore Quay warrant any further improvement works there, proposals for such works would be considered by my Department.

Has the Parliamentary Secretary been at Kilmore Quay recently and has he seen for himself how overcrowded it is becoming again?

Yes, I was at Kilmore and, as I have indicated there are no proposals for expansion at present.

I was there during the summer holidays and it looked as if there should be.

We are expecting the report of the harbour survey team and if that report indicates that works are needed, we shall consider the position then.
