Vol. 268 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pollution Prosecutions.

64.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the number of prosecutions for fresh water pollution instituted in the last six months.

Prosecutions under the Fisheries Acts for discharge of Deleterious matter are the responsibility of the Boards of Conservators. Detailed information on prosecutions of this kind for the period in question is not available in my Department.

Is there any way in which I can raise this matter in this House so as to get information from any Minister or Parliamentary Secretary, or must I write to the boards of conservators?

I think there is some justification for the Deputy seeking this kind of information, and I propose to ask the boards of conservators to specify the prosecutions relating to pollution. Pollution is such an important question now that I think that is justified.

But they are under the authority of the Parliamentary Secretary's office, is not that correct?

It is a matter for the boards.

The Parliamentary Secretary is in charge of the boards?

Yes. I shall try to get that information, because it is essential.
