Vol. 270 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Wexford Land Reclamation.

219.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries why financial aid under the Land Project has not been granted in respect of the Tacumshin lake area, County Wexford, where a large area of land stands in need of reclamation although technical assistance has been made available under this scheme.

Technical assistance has been given in the case of preliminary work of providing an outlet from Tacumshin Lake to the sea. Largely what is involved is the replacement of an old system. Farmers in the locality have submitted an application for Land Project grant aid towards the improvement of a common outfall watercourse emptying into the lake. This application is being investigated and it is expected that it will be possible to approve a suitable scheme of work towards which grant aid can be given out of Land Project funds.

Do I take it that grants will be made available to farmers in the Tacumshin area?

That is what I said in the reply.

I am thankful to the Minister. I just wanted to be clear on it.

I am glad the Minister does not think it is a Fianna Fáil lake.

I should be even more generous if I thought it were.

The Minister does not even know how to spell the word.
