Vol. 270 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Planning Appeals.

78.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number of planning appeals dealt with from the 1st April, 1973, to the 31st January, 1974, and the number for the period from 1st April, 1972, to 31st January, 1973.

The number of planning appeals disposed of in the period from 1st April, 1973, to the 31st January, 1974, was 3,169. The corresponding figure for the period from 1st April, 1972, to the 31st January, 1973, was 2,476.

Would the Minister care to inform the House of the number of planning permissions granted and refused in those periods?

I have not got that information. If the Deputy cares to put down a further question I will give it.

Is it true that permission is being granted on appeal like snuff is given out at a wake?

The Deputy is engaging in argument.

Is it true that permission is being given very easily?

It is untrue——

The figures are there to prove what I say.

This is typical of the way in which Deputy Molloy is trying to denigate the Department in which he worked. He was in the Department and for several years there were applications there for planning permission.

All the pals are getting permission now.

There were applications in the Department for several years and in an effort to try to speed up the permission additional methods had to be adopted. There was at least one person about whom Deputy Molloy sent in a note saying that he had made a mistake.

He cannot deny the fact that——

(Interruptions.)

Next question, please.

Permission is being given in the way confetti is used at a wedding.

That is not true.

The Deputy will get a chance to debate this matter soon. This is not the time for it.

Deputy Molloy is judging me by his own standards.

We cannot debate this matter. Deputy Molloy must allow questions to continue.
