Vol. 270 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Social and Economic Objectives.

114.

asked the Minister for Finance if the Government have formulated social and economic objectives which will satisfy the daily needs of the people specifically in regard to education, work and the quality of life in modern society.

The Government's social and economic objectives were set out clearly in the Statement of Intent published in February last by the parties comprising the Government. As the Deputy is aware, this stressed the social goals of economic activity and the social nature of work, and made a special commitment to bring immediate assistance to those in need and to lay the foundations of long-term policy to root out the causes of low incomes, bad housing and poor educational facilities. The steps taken in last year's budget and since then in many fields of Governmental activity represent an earnest of the Government's intentions in this field.
