asked the Minister for Finance if effluent from Muckross House is treated before discharge into Killarney Lakes, County Kerry.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Effluent Treatment.
Mr. Kenny
Effluent from Muckross House is at present discharged untreated into Muckross Lake but the Commissioners of Public Works have engaged a firm of consultants to prepare a sewage treatment scheme to render the effluent innocuous.
Could the Parliamentary Secretary tell me what happened the decision which I understood was made to sanction the installation of a septic tank at Muckross House some time ago?
Mr. Kenny
A septic tank would not be sufficient now to make the effluent innocuous. They have to instal a purification plant on account of the large number of visitors to the Bourn Vincent Memorial Park.
I understand that problem could arise. Can the Parliamentary Secretary say if we might have some sort of purification system in before the tourist season commences?
Mr. Kenny
We are hoping to do so but it is a big job.
If the Parliamentary Secretary can succeed in doing this, would he then examine other properties and animal houses in the park?
Mr. Kenny
Yes.
Will we have an official opening?
Mr. Kenny
I hope we will. I will invite the Deputy down if we have.
